Meet Gyll!
Hello everyone,
This week, I’d love to introduce you to Gyll (pronounced “Jill”) and share how she found her way to Lucky Dog Farm.
In December of 2024, I was home sick one day and bored completely out of my mind. I had fallen deep down the social media rabbit hole (you know it’s bad when that feels like a good idea), when I stumbled across a litter of Border Collie puppies for sale.
The breeder had posted the sire and dam pedigrees, and of course I clicked. When I looked more closely, I nearly fell off the couch — the puppies were nieces and nephews of my Bess. Their mother, Rose, is Bess’s full sister from the very same litter.
That felt like far too much of a coincidence to ignore.
A few conversations later, the deal was made, and I picked Gyll up just before Christmas.
Gyll — also known as Gyllie-Bean — is an absolute live wire. Her fascination with the sheep is unmatched, and her presence in the field is something to behold. When she steps out, heads come up immediately. The flock knows she’s there.
Her enthusiasm and raw power made those first months of training… memorable. It was a little like lobbing a live grenade into the middle of the flock. Intensity is her default setting. But underneath that fire is a tremendous working mind, and I’m really looking forward to putting more time into her training this spring.
When she’s not laser-focused on the sheep, wrestling with her aunt, playing tug with a stick, or launching herself on and off the woodpile, she can usually be found as close to me as physically possible.
She may be bold in the pasture, but at heart, she’s still my shadow.
And we’re just getting started.
Warmly, Farmer Judith
Gyllie-Bean, SOOOOO ready to work!
